This engine is a direct long-block replacement for the following North American models:
Toyota Tacoma: 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 (2.7L Models)
Toyota 4Runner: 19962000 (2.7L Models)
Toyota T100: 19941998 (2.7L Models)
Compatibility Note: This is the Coil-Type ignition version. If you are replacing a 19951997 Distributor-type engine, you must transfer your original distributor and related components to the JDM block.
To ensure 100% compatibility and maintain your Tacomas emissions and drivability, professional Toyota technicians recommend the following “External Swap” steps:
Intake & Exhaust Manifolds: You must transfer your original USDM Intake Manifold and Exhaust Manifold. JDM versions often lack specific vacuum bungs, EVAP sensors, or oxygen sensor locations required for North American OBDII emissions compliance.
Wiring Harness: Always retain and use your original USDM Engine Wiring Harness. JDM harnesses are configured for right-hand drive and will not interface with your Tacomas chassis bulkheads or ECU.
Engine Sensors: Transfer your original USDM Camshaft and Crankshaft Sensors. Toyota electronics are highly sensitive; using your original “known-good” sensors prevents intermittent signal issues or CEL codes.
Oil Pan: Inspect the JDM oil pan. Depending on the donor vehicle (e.g., HiAce or Hilux Surf), you must transfer your original USDM Tacoma Oil Pan and Pickup Tube to ensure proper subframe and front differential clearance.
Ignition Components: Ensure your USDM ignition coils or distributor setup are transferred to the JDM block to match your factory harness plugs.
