This engine is a direct long-block replacement for the following North American models:
Scion xB: 2004, 2005, 2006
Scion xA: 2004, 2005, 2006
Compatibility Note: This is the non-hybrid version of the 1NZ. It is a direct fit for the xB and xA chassis.
To ensure 100% compatibility and a “Plug-and-Play” experience in your Scion, professional technicians recommend the following “External Swap” steps:
Intake & Exhaust Manifolds: You must transfer your original USDM Intake Manifold and Exhaust Manifolds. JDM versions may have different vacuum port configurations or lack specific emissions bungs required for North American OBDII compliance.
Wiring Harness: Always retain and use your original USDM Engine Wiring Harness. JDM harnesses are built for right-hand drive and will not interface with your Scion’s chassis bulkheads.
Engine Sensors: Transfer your original USDM Camshaft and Crankshaft Sensors to the JDM block to guarantee perfect communication with your Scion’s ECU.
Water Housing: Inspect the JDM water outlet. If the heater hose angles differ from your original setup, swap your original USDM Water Housing.
Oil Pan: While usually identical, check the oil pan for any shipping damage. It is often easier to install a fresh gasket on your original pan if the JDM one is dented.
